Riding a Helicopter with the Doors Off in Kauai!

So, I have to tell you about this crazy thing my boyfriend and I did in Kauai back in 2021. It was an exhilarating helicopter ride with the doors off! I know, I know, it sounds totally insane, but bear with me here.

When I first heard about this adventure, I was skeptical. But then I read all the reviews and they were raving about how amazing it was. And honestly, who am I to turn down an amazing adventure?

So, I booked the ride in advance, and on the day of the trip, my boyfriend and I made our way to the office to check in. After signing some release forms, and watching a safety protocol, we headed out to the airport.

Kauai Napali Coast

Once you arrive at the airport, your heart will race with excitement as you’ll find other passengers who have also made reservations for their ride. The airport is an open-air section where dedicated helicopters land and take off. It’s a hive of activity, with competing companies also vying for space. You’ll join a throng of fellow thrill-seekers waiting at the stand, each of you eagerly anticipating your turn. As the captains prepare the helicopters, they’ll start calling out passengers one by one. This is the moment when you’ll meet your captain and find out which helicopter you’ll ride on! The anticipation is like the roller coaster line, but instead of a roller coaster, it’s a helicopter!

The helicopter was waiting for us, and I have to admit, I was a little nervous as I buckled up and put on my helmet with a microphone. Our captain went over the safety protocol again and gave us a steady iPhone stick to keep our phones from shaking. And then, before I knew it, we were taking off the ground with the doors off.

As the ground started getting away from me and the buildings getting smaller by the minute, my nervousness overwhelmed me. I mean, I couldn’t believe what I was doing! But once we were up in the air and soaring over the breathtaking scenery of Kauai, I knew that it was totally worth it. The views were so beautiful! The mountains felt so close to me, as if I could touch them. It was a surreal experience, and I felt so lucky to be able to see the island from this vantage point.

Looking back, it was one of the most unique and exciting experiences of my life. And sure, it was a little nerve-wracking at first, but I’m glad I pushed myself to do it. I mean, if I can survive a helicopter ride with the doors off, what else can’t I do, right?
