I’m a Gemini and moody. It comes with the territory. The good news is that I’m really good at getting myself out of a bad mood 90% of the time. The other 10% I try to suppress and ignore it with the following tricks.
- Listen to music.
An instant mood lifter, music never failed to get me out of my rut. My friends have mentioned to me many times how I have the weirdest taste in music. I can go from rap one minute to a nice mellow ballad from Celine Dion. There’s no secret behind my choice in music as it is intended to match the feelings I feel at the moment. ‘Thank you, next” – AG
- Work It Out.
When I’m really REALLY angry, I know that a hard run and weight lifting will do me good. However long it takes to run on a treadmill, sweating it out makes me feel in control over my mind and body. Bringing me back to that inner girl power that I had to begin with.
- Read an inspiring article.
I don’t need to tell you that your mind is your most powerful asset. It can mentally break you down but, it can also take you to your full potential. Reading an inspiring article helps me see a different perspective on life whether I’m reading about how an expert, on a subject matter, navigate through work life or how someone survived personal difficulties. A good inspiring article sometimes makes you see how small your problems are more than you thought.
- Write it out.
The great thing about writing is that you can write as much as you want and as raw as you’d like. Then tear it up and throw it away. I’ve done this many times just writing out everything about how I’m feeling, what I want and what I can do better. Sometimes I’ll keep the notes if, I think it’ll help me and other times, I’ll throw it away when I no longer need it.
- Sleep it off.
Most of the time when I’m stressed it’s usually because I didn’t get enough sleep the night before. I’ve seen the difference in me when I lack sleep vs getting the full 8 hours. My mood is definitely night and day.
- Get outside.
My work involves working on a computer all day. Therefore, going outside like a hike, helps me rejuvenate. Even a short walk around the park and getting away from the screen helps me refresh.
- Spend time with friends and family.
You probably knew this was going to be on the list….or not. Either way, spending time with those you love and who knows you the best makes life fuller. At least for me, when I spend time with my niece and nephews, I enjoy seeing life through their eyes. They’re so innocent yet, smart.
- Watch funny videos.
Youtube is a great resource for everything. I found video tutorials in how to change my tires to watching movie bloopers. The GOT bloopers are my current favorite.
- Make plans for activities that you enjoy. This could be future travel plans or going to shows, exhibits, museums, etc. You have more going for your life than you realize. It’s time to make time for it.
