How to Pack for a X-Mas Winter Getaway to Nevada.

Travel life seemed so easy when I was in Europe. It only took me 30 minutes tops to pack and I would be set. These days, I’m finding that preparing for any trips seem more difficult. I think the biggest difference between trips in Europe vs California is the weather temperature. Anywhere outside Southern California in the winter is much colder. Therefore, for this upcoming Christmas trip, I’ll be heading to the mountains where the temperature coming from California to the mountains will go from 0 to 100 in a mere of 2-3 hours. How to pack for such event? I learned it’s all about versatility. I needed something that I can pull on or off if I’m indoor or outdoor. For this trip, I would be spending most of my days outdoors and also staying indoors in the car for a few hours heading to our destination. Therefore, I’d have to think about layering, staying warm and being comfortable.

This is how I stay organized.

1. My Iphone’s weather app is my savior. Since I’m heading to the mountains in Nevada I already knew that the temperature would drastically drop. I checked my weather app and generally, it gave me a base on how cold it’ll be compared to California. Although to find out just how cold will it be for that specific location, I turned to Instagram.

2. Instagram’s live hashtag vids on a specific destination (look up a hashtag) helps showcase the overall picture. Instagram recently rolled out a feature where you can now follow a specific hashtag to your liking and it becomes part of your feed.

For my purpose, I use it for in the minute live events via video (see photo below). It helps me see what the status is for that specific location I am looking into. For example, I searched for #grandcanyon and I clicked on the video. I came to find out that it is snowing in this location but, there’s no rain and there’s sunshine. Good. I know exactly what to pack at this point. The next step will be to see if everything will fit in my luggage.

3. Checking the size of my suitcase and handbag. Like many travelers, I have a weekend suitcase bag that can fit an outfit for traveling for 3 days. It’s quite small in compare to a regular size suitcase, although, it fits everything I need. In addition to a suitcase, I also take with me a handbag for things I can quickly pull while I’m on the go.

4. Breaking down the necessities.
