There’s never a dull moment in Southern California. The weather always stays consistent ranging between 75-85 degrees Fahrenheit all throughout the year. It’s quite common for the locals to be outdoors at the beach, relaxing at the pool or hiking. I know I’m always doing one or the other like last Wednesday, my roommate and I decided to go hiking at the Top of The World in Laguna Beach. I thought I’ve been to it before but, I realized I’ve never visited this area.Located at the north end of Laguna Beach, the Top of The World sits a thousand feet above sea level. Getting to it required driving through a slight windy street on a neighborhood road.
Once we reached the top and parked we immediately came to face with a view of the entire city. WOW! The view was a nice surprise and I thought it was one of the best views I’ve seen in O.C.
There are several pathways you can take with signs at each point of the paths so you’ll never get lost. For someone with horrible directions, this was a plus for me. We ended up taking the car crash route where we realized it was a very narrow pathway with lots of rocks and loose gravel. Being extra careful going this way was highly necessary.
As we descended half-way down, we came across a guy who was on his way up. We asked him whether the pathway was worth taking or not. He suggested between huffing and puffing, that the path we were on was not meant to look at the scenery but, for someone who is keen on a good and challenging work out. Between his long breaths and sweat coming down his face, it turns out he never made it all the way to the bottom of the path and he had decided to turn back around before he got too deep in his route. Geez, I’m glad we were on the opposite end going down and not up as I thought to myself.
It turns out, there really IS a car that crashed on this path. I thought it was just a name that someone made up or maybe the pathway seemed so long that I never thought we’d actually see this crashed car. Well, it’s real.
At the end of this trail, we had a choice of either going back up the same way or keep going. Truthfully, I was not keen on making our way up with all those rocks. We both decided to keep going and eventually, we found our way back to the top. My legs were a bit sore the next day but, I highly recommend this place to hike. Not only will you get a nice view of the city but, there are many different ways you can take your hiking route from easy, moderate to difficult.
